Concrete is built for strength; post-tensioning is built for longevity.
To reduce the chance of concrete slabs bending and sagging under weight, steel is tensioned within the concrete after it is poured.
Using a highly engineered tensioning system consisting of galvanised ducts, tendon chairs and powerful hydraulic jacks, tension is applied and is retained when the jacks are withdrawn.
This maintains compression forces in the concrete, thus strengthening the slab.
True strength comes from good design
Concrete is strong in compression, but weak in tension.
Solutions designed with your project in mind
For the best results for your project, you need a custom solution designed to meet your particular objectives, priorities, requirements and budget. Specialist solutions designed around your needs creates better building outcomes and stronger relationships.
Post-tensioning solutions can be designed around any of the following criteria
- Thinner slabs
- Longer clear spans
- Lower story height
- Reduced materials
- Lower embodied carbon
- Fast construction
- Reduced labour costs
- Decreased deflection & cracking
- Significant decrease in traditional reinforcing
- Lighter construction & lower dead loads on floors

For best results, it pays to start early
Post-tensioning solutions offer benefits including wider lengths and shallower depths of concrete spans, increased column spacing and changes in soffit/ceiling heights. For example, columns or walls may be spaced up to 10 metres apart with the use of post-tensioning, compared to as little as 5 metres apart using a conventionally reinforced slab.
When you get our value engineers involved early in your project, we can help advise you on slab thickness, column spacing and cost comparisons in a timely manner that will help you make more informed decisions to create better outcomes in quality, strength, durability and cost.
Choosing the right approach for your project
The best post-tensioning solution is the one that is designed for your project. Depending on your project objectives, requirements and budget, we design the ideal post-tensioning solution to do the job. These are some of the options we will consider using for your project.
Multi Strand Tensioning System
This system enables longer spans for applications including shopping centres, stadiums & airports. Multi-strand tensioning uses a higher number of steel strands compared to typical solutions, while still providing the advantages of reduced material & labour costs in addition to longer spans.
Stress Bar Post-Tensioning
This method uses rigid & straight tendons without profiles, offering an economical solution for some projects, & suitable for structures designed for both short & long term use. Stress bar systems offer a speedy & secure installation method, saving time & cost while still providing strength & durability.
Mono-Strand Anchor
The mono‑strand anchor system is a trusted post‑tensioning solution for suspended slabs and structural elements. Using individual high‑strength steel strands locked with hydraulic wedges, this method delivers flexibility in design, excellent crack control, and long‑term durability.
